It is not very often that you can hear a new HF shortwave radio station sign on the air. WTWW a new International Shortwave Radio facility just outside of Nashville, TN is launching a new transmitter this Saturday with a broadcast we are calling “This Is Only A Test” starting at 4 pm Central Standard Time. This is a 100,000 watt transmitter running into a full size rhombic antenna.
This is a global radio event with radios being tuned in all over the world.
The QSO radio show has requested that we could air this broadcast as a amateur radio event to promote amateur radio along with shortwave listening. Why? Well, the shortwave listening audience is huge.
The typical shortwave radio listener is a great potential candidate for amateur radio.
There are more than 1.5 billion shortwave receivers in use worldwide, the BBC estimates that at any given moment, over 200 million sets are tuned to shortwave broadcasts.
This is the second time WTWW has allowed us to conduct this kind of broadcast on a powerful new shortwave facility.
The purpose of this broadcast is to demonstrate HF communications and to put radio amateurs on the air to a worldwide audience to tell their story.
This is not a commercial venture in any way.
So spread the word to all of your amateur radio friends and call us on Saturday on “This Is Only A Test” and talk to the world about Amateur Radio!
Thanks and 73
Ted Randall

| Listening to your show on 9480 on my Zenith Trans-Oceanic 1000-D as I write. (I checked the frequency on my Satellit 800, and the pointer is a little off on the T-O.) Fascinating program, but I'm missing bits here and there as I'm watching our 18-month little girl. She likes turning knobs on my shortwave sets! Thanks for the interesting program. 73, Alex J. | Listening on an Alinco DX-70TH transceiver - excellent signal - some QSB. Switching between a 43' vertical and a 260' NVIS doublet - the doublet is too low so the vertical is doing a little better this time of day. KD4E - located between Statesboro and Savannah GA. |

| Ted: I am thoroughly enjoying listening to today's inaugural broadcast on 9990. This is an interesting experience to join with other listeners in the start-up of a transmitter. My listening location is Kitchener, Ontario, which is 60 miles NW of Buffalo, NY. The signal is coming through clearly, but fading from time to time. The reception is improving as night falls. Best regards Phil Whitehead |

| I listened on 9.990 Mhz and you sounded good here in Douglass,KS signal was 10 over S9 with good audio. The frequency change to 5.085 was a little touch and go there for a short period but ended up working even better. Signal is 20 to 40 over S9. Antenna here is a 160 meter dipole connected direct. I\'m enjoying the show very much it\'s great to hear this going on. It has to help Ham Radio. Good Luck, 73 Jeff N0OST |

| New Radio Show | By Unknown on Feb 12 2012 at 1:11 AM |
| Congrats TED, I've been listening on 5.085 since you switched over from 9.990. Been an SWL listener since I was at least 10 (1948), beginning with my dad's "Chair Side" Zenith 4 band receiver. Great fun in the early days listening to Radio Moscow, BBC in London, Radio Cairo Egypt and MANY more! First FCC Radioitelephone license for Civil Air Patrol communications in 1953, In U.S. Air Force Radar '57 thru '61, then first ham ticket as WA4MCZ in '61. Now W4CZ Extra class. Listening to you on my primary HF rig, an Icom IC-781, nice 59++ signal here in Blountville, TN (Near Bristol, TN/VA). Called in to the show but line went to the answering machine. Keep up the good radio program. |

| GREAT!!!! | By Unknown on Feb 12 2012 at 2:14 AM |
| I'm an 87 yr. old ham --- WB8BTI. I have been in active for 15-20 yrs., but decided to get back in to Ham Radio and Shortwave listening. I bought a new ICOM IC-718 transceiver, which has a General Coverage Receiver, and I'm having a ball!!! Listened to the program on 9.990 and it came in pretty good. Then switched to 5.085 and its better, 58 signal. Thanks for the broadcast!! Norm DeTray in NW Ohio. |

| Great to hear a new SW station!! | By Unknown on Feb 12 2012 at 3:08 AM |
| Congrats. 36-year ham here. Never was a real SWL; just enjoy listening to SW on old gear from time to time. You are S9+ on a random wire in the attic on 5085 kHz. The receiver is a Hammarlund HQ-180A from the 1960's, which I restored. I have some old gear and some modern gear. As a ham I mostly enjoy CW (Morse code) operating, and 2 meter FM. I look forward to hearing you. All the Best, Mo AD8T |

| QSO on 9479 | By Unknown on Mar 24 2012 at 6:51 PM |
| Listening on 9479 at 2:46 PM Eastern on 3/24/12. The station has excellent audio. Signal report is 30dB over S-9 near Pittsburgh, PA. Very interesting program. I hope you continue to air the show. Interesting program material in the U.S. is extremely limited. Religious, survivalist, gold hoarding, colloidal silver, conspiracy radio is fine, but sane and balanced programming is sorely needed! Incidentally, your program is listed on this site and on http://wtww.us/pages/program-schedule.php as being on 9990, but, obviously it's on 9479 kHz where I'm listening to Alan Pitts from the ARRL right now. Will you update the website(s) with your schedule and an accurate frequency location at some point? SWL |
